[NO SPOILERS] Is Life is Strange: Before the Storm physical disc - downloadable codes or playable from the disc (not including bonus episode which I've heard is digital download only)?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:14 PM PDT

I have a weird dilemma. I have the digital version of the game but episode 3 is corrupted and I cannot download it. I have tried everything initialization and re-download, restarts, restoring licenses. Everything else works. I literally re-downloaded all my games. I'm just inclined to spend a couple bucks and buy the physical copy to finish the game (I'm enjoying it by the way so thats why its bugging me).

So anyone have the physical disc and know if I can just play episode 3 off the disc or is just a downloadable code in a box?

[ALL] S2 Ep1 has some odd choices

    Posted: 21 Mar 2020 01:43 AM PDT

My biggest problem with all the games is that they put heavy emphasis on many inconsequential no-brainer choices, but don't put enough emphasis on seemingly small choices that they then have bite you in the ass for silly reasons the rest of the game. In S2E1 by far the biggest choice is to be truthful with Esteban so he gives you the full $40, but they frame it really weirdly where you're admitting to buying booze and weed with it.

But since they don't tell you, if you have just the $20, you're screwed the rest of the episode and can't buy anything at the Mom n Pop store, which urges you to steal. You then feel compelled to steal water if nothing else, because the game keeps pushing you on how you need something to drink, and makes you wait to fill up in the bathroom until after the family is gone. But you don't need any of it as Pa kidnapping you renders the point moot, and then you have the hotel room so camping is irrelevant. But you still are out that original amount of money moving forward. I thought it was a cheap way of manipulating you into 'setting a bad example for Daniel,' as not enough importance was placed on this will be the choice that gives you money to survive after you hit the road. It would be far more complex to choose to steal when you don't need to, not because you're thinking, 'well, if the game didn't screw me over with that choice, I'd have $40; we probably need the tent and supplies for later, guess I have to steal it.'

Other small examples like them treating it as a no-brainer to throw the phone away and not giving you a choice, and making you get Daniel a soda instead of getting to choose to tell him directly about Dad's death, are kind of messed up. I would have liked the choice to not have to be torn between protecting him and promising you won't lie to him only to have it bite you in the butt later; lying when you don't have to is more of a choice than the game forcing you to make a promise you can't keep without knowing what's coming, anyway.
