[ALL] #JourneysEnd - Replay Discussion for Life Is Strange 2: Episode 2 - Rules

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:00 AM PST

#JourneysEnd is a coordinated (by Square Enix) global playthrough of Episodes 1 to 4, as well as The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Everyone is invited to play, stream, and cry again.

These replay discussion posts will be a little bit different than an episode release:

    • Spoilers for all Life Is Strange games are allowed
    • Discussion posts will stay up for way shorter
    • Most of us will probably have played the episode already

For this one, we're replaying Life Is Strange 2: Episode 2 - Rules!

Playing the episode again, and knowing what happens in later episodes...

    • ... did your opinion of any of the characters change?
    • ... did any of your choices change?
    • ... did you discover something new you hadn't seen before?

    Some links:

    Bonus giveaway!

In each of these replay posts we'll be giving away 1 copy of Life Is Strange 2 Collector's Edition, for a total of 5 throughout #JourneysEnd. These are graciously provided by Square Enix. In addition, each winner will also receive a Platinum Award (1 month of Reddit Premium and 700 coins) courtesy of r/LifeIsStrange.

Here's how to enter the giveaway for the third copy and a Platinum Award:

    1. Make a comment as a direct reply to this post
    2. Start your comment with something like "I want to enter!"
    3. In the same comment, add your thoughts after replaying the episode (you could answer our questions above)
    4. The winner will be randomly selected from the direct replies to this post (points don't matter)

[ALL] The individual elements of the original LiS that made it so special to me.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:31 AM PST

    The elements

-an easily relatable main character with just the right amount of personality to be able to project yourself into.

-a strong and evolving relationship with the vulnerable deuteragonist (Chloe in LiS). Even if we don't like them initially, we eventually learn to understand and care for them and ultimately realize this is their story, not ours.

-side character archetypes that gradually develop into three-dimensional human beings, trancending beyond our original impression.

-Location as a character. Although we have a few locations within the town, all of the action takes place in Arcadia Bay, creating a certain intimacy and grounding with the environment. Both our main characters are strongly linked to this location, given their past.

-A good mystery and ominous threat driving home our concern for the characters. In LiS, there is impending storm, the threat of abduction, reinforced by the disapearance of RA and Kate's story.

-choices that aren't always black and white, much like real life.

-a painful final choice to make. This is a tough one to admit. If everything had turned out perfect, I don't think this story would have impacted me the way it did, nor been true to the world established throughout the story. It begins with tragedy (the bathroom scene) and ends with tragedy (your choice). And yet it's filled with good things and moments you cherish. Much like real life. And yet there is still hope. Though changed forever, Max's story continues, one way or another.
Disclaimer : I chose to save Chloe and sacrafice the town, but even in this scenario, with the simplified ending, your heart breaks a little knowing what we know. Ultimately, there is no going back (game ending, though I'm not necessarily talking about Max's powers, which are left both unexplained and unresolved, though my interpretation is it doesn't matter, as she has no intention of using them again, given the lesson learned)

-it's ok not to overexplain everything. The origin of Max's power isn't explained or ever resolved, and this feels right for the story. It was never about her power. Ultimately this was a clever way to acknowledge that players will generally save and go back to try and do things "the right way" when playing, and a chance to subvert the expected outcomes. It could have been a simple gimmick, but ultimately shapes the narrative.

-A great soundtrack that supports the elements of the story, both narratively and emotionally.

I wrote this as a way to help myself while writing my fanfiction, to make sure I stay within the spirit of LiS, but I figure other's might find it useful. I also hope to create narrative games in the future, and I will likely reference this while writing.

Did I miss anything? What are your thoughts? Thanks for being so supportive and enthusiastic!

    [NO SPOILERS] Game development help

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:09 AM PST

I need to design a game for a school project and I want to try to make a 'choose your own adventure'/ interactive story game (that is inspired by games like life is strange). I need to get feedback on what other people think of the game so any feedback in this really short survey would be amazing! Thanks! :)

[No spoilers] Lofe is strange gives me a feel that ive never experienced on another game before.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:59 PM PST

I feel attachment to these games and it kind of sadness me. These games give me so many feels and just to ses it end really is just a big disappointment. Chloe price , and Rachel Amer had such an unbreakable friendship and tbh i could feel a personal connection to them and their friendship. I felt a sense of thirst for a friend like Chloe Price or Rachel Amber. Someone to just laugh with, vibe with, explore parts of the world, have a partner in crime etc... But it just wont ever happen which is the sad reality.

[S1 E5] The Toughest Decision Of All Episode.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 04:50 PM PST

Okay so hello everyone I am new guy here. I just wanna confess that I am damn of a weak heart person. When I arrive to the final decision, I just can't drag my pointer to Sacrifice Chloe choice, simply because I ain't brave enough to watch Nathan shot Chloe to death. That gave me some idea of this meme I made. Anyone has the same issue with me?

Really miss her character, kinda feel bad.

    Do u think she'll reappear?
