    [S2] Interesting Thing I Noticed

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT

I've been replaying the series recently and noticed that Captain Spirit contains some reference to almost every episode of LiS 2:

Episode 1: There's a newspaper on the table talking about the shooting in Seattle.

Episode 2: The whole game takes place during said episode.

Episode 3: There's an article you can read that talks about train hopping teens

Episode 4: You get a call from Lizbeth's church early in the game.

Not sure if there's any reference to Episode 5 anywhere but neat touch nonetheless.

[S1 E5] Just finished this game over the weekend

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I loved it, what a great game. There were some conversations that I think were lacking or needed additional flags to trigger, but overall it was a great experience. I'd put it above Walking Dead Season 1 personally. That said, I do have some questions on the events that took place in Episode 5 (If the spoiler tag didn't deter you already, then this is the final warning)

    1. When Max goes back to her selfie photo while in the gallery, she rips up the photo so she never wins the contest. When she gets back to the present, she's back in the Dark Room. But I thought she already altered the timeline so she texts David on Monday, how'd she end up back in the Dark Room Thursday night/Friday?
    2. How/why did David appear/find the bunker? If Max never texted him, he would have no reason to go snooping there.
    3. Was David always supposed to stumble on to the Dark Room? If in the beginning of Episode 5, Max never goes back to her Monday selfie, would David have appeared anyway?
    4. What was Max saying to Chloe at the party before she went back and had her nightmare sequence? Why would Max forget about their plans and stuff? If they went to the beach because it was safer, why didn't they think to bring Joyce and other people there?

I know it seems a bit nitpicky, but I genuinely did like the story and am willing to suspend disbelief. I just feel like there was some lacking explanation, or maybe I just missed something (or I'm really dense). Also, I had watched Butterfly Effect in the past, which made a lot of the events predictable. Not sure if intentional, but a lot of things seem copied from it; though tbh the storytelling and characters were a lot better here. Besides, knowing how certain plotlines were gonna go did not at all deter from the emotional experience. I cried way more times over Chloe than Ashton Kutcher or any of his childhood friends.

P.S. Ya'll have no idea how cool it was to start the game last Friday (Oct 9) to find out that it was taking place Oct 7. Finishing it today on the same day as Episode 5 was pretty cool. Sadly, or luckily, there were no blue butterflies spotted at home so I have no rewind powers.

[NO SPOILERS] Do you think game plays should be banned?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 07:45 PM PDT

I don't know how it is in your country, but here in Brazil, I realize that many people only had access to LiS through game plays. I've been watching some and I feel that much of the excitement that the game would provide is replaced by the impressions of the gamer. I also feel that, in their eagerness to finish the game, they skip a lot of content and make the questions that the game proposes shallow.

[ALL] Trying to consolidate some events in the Life is Strange universe that don’t seem to line up.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 04:44 PM PDT

I'll try to lay it out as clearly as I can but...y'know...time travel.

WARNING! CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR LIFE IS STRANGE 1 AND MINOR SPOILERS FOR LIFE IS STRANGE 2!

So, this has to do with the fate of Victoria Chase. Here are the key points:

    (1) In LiS 1/Ep.5, Max wakes up in the Dark Room and (assuming Max warned her about Nathan) sees Victoria tied up on the floor beside her, meaning Jefferson grabbed the other girl sometime after Max's warning.

    (2) By the time David Madsen rescues Max and subdues Jefferson, Victoria is gone. Jefferson implies that he killed her before David arrived.

    (3) In order to save Chloe from being killed at American Rust, Max takes Jefferson's car to the Two Whales and uses the picture Warren took before the End Of The World party. She convinces Chloe to talk to David instead of going after Nathan, which would have led to her death. As a result, Max never warns Victoria about Nathan. in this new timeline, the Arcadia Bay PD takes Jefferson into custody (with David's assistance) well before the storm hits.

    (4) That means that there's no one inside the Dark Room bunker by the time the storm lands and, unless you choose to sacrifice Chloe to save the town, Jefferson remains in custody and Victoria is still alive. More to the point, the only way for Max to be in a position to even make that choice is if Jefferson gets arrested before he shoots Chloe.

With me so far? Because this is where things start getting a little foggy for me.

In LiS 2/Ep.5, assuming Arcadia Bay was lost, there's a letter in David Madsen's trailer written by Victoria Chase you can find that reads:

    Dear Mr. Madsen,

Sorry this is so late, but I put the wrong PO Box address on the envelope and the letter was returned. Hope this one finds you.

I'm glad you left Arcadia Bay... or what's left of it. I'm now going to therapy, which helps, but I still get nightmares. *I hope that Max and Chloe are keeping you company. They're a good team.**

I'm still in Seattle, looking over my parents' gallery. Their partner Jessica is great, she's taking care of everything. The will is a mess, but I will be okay.

**It's hard to get over the fact that, in a way, I owe my life to Mark Jefferson throwing me in his fucking bunker. I get flashes of his creep face all the time... but then I see yours, coming to rescue me. I'll probably be thanking you for the rest of my life for that.

Please keep in touch (at this address for a while) and let me know if there's anything I can help you with. Thanks again for your service.

    Best wishes,

    V. Chase

This letter tells us that Chloe is still alive and well, that Arcadia Bay was wiped out, and that Victoria - and probably David, too - survived the storm because they were in the Dark Room bunker.

So here's my quandary: If Chloe is alive, then Jefferson would have been arrested while alone in the Dark Room. But if that's the case, how is it that he – and apparently Victoria – are inside his bunker when the storm hits the following day?

Have I missed something here, or did the folks at DONTNOD just fumble the continuity a little?
