[ALL] Why didn't max save chloe without using her powers?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:21 AM PDT

This might sound really really dumb but I just finished the game and chose the sacrifice chloe option and i just can't get my head around why max couldn't save chloe by simply setting off the alarm BEFORE nathan could pull the gun out or by jumping him and hitting him with a bucket or warned her in some way by yelling or just interrupt their convo in anyway that would have prevented nathan from flipping shit or just waited outside the bathroom door and prevented nathan from going in and warning chloe later? She wouldn't have used her powers so no tornado and she saves chloe... Again this might be dumb af but im confused so someone help

[NO SPOILERS] played this game when I was 12, Im the same age as the characters now

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 09:25 AM PDT

I just moved in to my dorm on Wednesday, Max and Chloe seemed so much older to me when I played for the first time. My school better hope I don't find out I can reverse time cause I sacrificed Arcadia Bay.

Also LiS was probably not good to play at 12 lmao, but it was the first lgbt rep I saw so I clung to that, but everything else is also amazing and made me still love the game now

    [S1] "Obstacles" song analysis

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 04:17 AM PDT

On almost every Life is Strange countdown list, "Obstacles" by Syd Matters always makes it near the top of the most memorable and affecting songs from the OST. I think many people instantly connect with the beautiful melody and instrumentation, but I rarely see as much discussion around the brilliantly evocative and efficient lyrics. So today I wanted to take a little time to analyze those lyrics and discuss how they work to support and enhance the themes of Life is Strange.

Simply put, "Obstacles" is a song expressing dissatisfaction for society's prescribed transition into adulthood, concluding that this struggle is unavoidable, and resolving to find another way of living.

Let's say sunshine for everyone, but as far as I can remember
We were migratory animals moving under changing weather

The narrator is pointing out that the common middle class "everybody gets a fair shot" mantra and its promises of stability are at odds with their own understanding of history, in which people have constantly struggled to survive and adapt to an uncertain reality.

One day we will foresee obstacles through the blizzard, through the blizzard
Today we will sell our uniform, live together, live together

The speaker acknowledges that conflict is an inevitable part of life, portrayed metaphorically here as a blizzard contrasted against the idyllic "sunshine for everyone" image in the first line. Even still, they resolve to face these storms head-on instead of deceiving themselves. "Today we will sell our uniform" could represent a literal school uniform, or casting off traditional society's values of comfort, diligence, conservatism, and stability.

We played hide and seek in waterfalls
We were younger, we were younger

In the last verse, the narrator looks back upon their childhood, where they were able to live freely without fully recognizing the danger. Adulthood has granted them the ability to foresee the obstacles in their own life, but they're left unsure if that's ultimately a good or bad thing. Indeed, the teachers and parents who said "sunshine for everyone" in the first verse might be better off for their ignorance, for they will never know how close they were to falling.

What does it all mean? Well in the context of Life is Strange, it's easy to see how this has become Max & Chloe's signature song. When it first appears at the end of Episode 1, it's most closely linked to the nostalgic binge our two leads have been on recalling their childhood friendship. The weather is also quite literally changing, foretelling the obstacles that will befall them in the subsequent chapters of the story. When the coda appears in the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending, Max has weathered the literal storm and cast off that traditional coming-of-age narrative by allowing her hometown to be destroyed. The game then ends with Max & Chloe driving through the wreckage of middle-class suburbia and resolving to find a new life for themselves elsewhere. It's obviously linked to Obstacles through the weather imagery and the metaphorical beginning of their journey into an uncertain future. The queerness of their relationship also echoes the song's middle passage of selling the "uniform" man/woman dichotomy their upbringing has prescribed.

I understand when people say the Sacrifice Bay ending offers much less emotional catharsis for the viewer, but in a sense, this echoes the lyrical content of "Obstacles" in a really profound way. Max & Chloe will never again feel the self-assuredness and safety of their respective childhoods, but by resolving to foresee the obstacles together, they have fully entered adulthood at the story's end. What do you folks think? Leave a comment, like and subscr-- just kidding haha.

[S1] [BtS] Do you share my opinion on one of the forgotten choices that should have been imported into LIS 1 ?

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 09:02 AM PDT

I just finished again Life is Strange first of the name as well as Life is Strange: Before the storm. And, something that had escaped me until then, I don't understand why Chloe just didn't ask Max to save Rachel with a simple time travel using a photo ? That probably wouldn't have changed much, since the tornado would still be present and the final choice would be to sacrifice Chloe (as well as Rachel, as that involved changing reality again) or leaving (all 3) and let the tornado destroy the city (and kill a lot of people, I guess)... Unless they left for Los Angeles before Max returned to Arcadia Bay, but in the end they never really left, and I wonder if they would have really done.

A bad move from Dontnod all the same, because, with this power, Rachel would at least have been able to be rescued in time, and the culprits (Jefferson and Nathan) arrested without having time to make the slightest victim. Too bad that is not part of the choices. We get very attached to Rachel in BTS, it's such a shame we can't save her. I like to think that it happened in one of the infinite alternate realities (while having saved Arcadia, because it is a beautiful small town 🙃). Rachel doesn't deserve to end up like this 😏

I don't know if you share this opinion ?

    [ALL] Farewell Theory

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 01:17 PM PDT

I just finished Farewell, and I was thinking about this the entire time. Maybe Max in Farewell was actually Max from after Life is Strange 1, using her photo travel power. She went back in time to visit Chloe before she left, just to have one last adventure before Chloe's dad died and before she left.

I'm probably not the first to think of this, but I couldn't stop thinking about it.

[ALL] Is it be possible to buy the pre-order outfits after True Colors was released?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 07:01 PM PDT

    Hello everyone!

The Steam page for True Colors states the following:

"Pre-order now to get 4 additional in-game outfits."

I was wondering: Is it also possible to buy these outfits when you don't pre-order and buy the game after it was released? Is anything know about this? :)

    [S2] politics in LiS 2

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 03:11 PM PDT

i just have a question… do you guys think that politics and racism were "forced" in the game? i was reading the comments on the LiS facebook page about how LiS2 was on sale, and i came across quite a few comments about how the game was bad because it was "too woke"

personally? i disagree, but as a white woman i feel like i can't comment on how if it was portrayed good or bad

i keep seeing comments about how the game forces the opinion that all white people are bad, because that's obviously not true. the Reynolds, Brody, Finn, Cass and the group… there are so many white people who are willing to help them, so where do they get that the game is forcing that opinion?

so yeah… what are your opinions on it?

[ALL] Question about True Colors physical Edition

    Posted: 19 Aug 2021 04:49 PM PDT

Hi all, I want to pre-order True Colors for my wife as a gift, but I am not sure if I should get physical or digital (she does not have a large Steam library to strongly prefer digital).

Physical gift should definitely make a greater impression, but it is probably only a box and a disc and that would fade away quickly. Do Life is Strange games usually come with activation codes (e.g. Steam) along with the disc? I would probably need to find an external disc reader if it is only a disc
