[CS] With the announcement of the next Life is Strange game, I wanted to go back and talk about the most overlooked/underrated entry in the franchise so far, Captain Spirit.

    Posted: 15 Mar 2021 12:38 PM PDT

Captain Spirit is probably the weirdest entry in the series so far as people go back and forth on whether or not it stands as it's own game or if it's just apart of Life is Strange 2.

When Captain Spirit initially released I would say the reception towards it from the fanbase was mostly positive albeit a bit muted. Many people loved it's atmosphere, music, references to LiS1, and the nuance between Chris and Charles's relationship. I'd even go as far as to say that it was more positively received by the community than all of LiS2. However, there was criticism of course. A common complaint is that the game is fairly uneventful (and even boring) and that it's really also really short. Some people also had a hard time relating to Chris due to his age, and I remember a lot of people were worried that he would be the main protagonist of Life is Strange 2 because of that fact. Overall though, that's pretty much it.

The thing that's interesting though is that after Captain Spirit's initial release, people just...sort of forgot about it. Especially after LiS2. Think about it, when you see people discuss the series in general Captain Spirit is mostly never mentioned or brought up. Even though LiS2 is slightly enhanced by playing CS beforehand, most people completely ignore it altogether and just jump right in.

Chris himself is also relatively forgotten about as a character and I think it's mostly because his role in LiS2 was so small he felt largely unimportant in the grand scheme of things. This also leads many people to believe that since his role is so small in LiS2 that Captain Spirit is completely unnecessary and therefore skippable.

There are many people however who believe Captain Spirit is closer to LiS1 than LiS2 and honestly it's easy to see why. The mood of the game is much calmer, the colors and visuals are brighter and it's multiple references to LiS1 definitely help. This was intentional on Dontnod's part though. I believe they described CS as "the bridge" from LiS1 to LiS2 and when you put that into perspective it makes a lot of sense. It introduces and sets up the major theme of LiS2 which is family with Chris and Charles and how they're coping with Emily's death, while also channeling LiS1's atmosphere and vibe.

What are your thoughts on Captain Spirt? Did you like it? Do you think it's as underrated as I think or do you disagree?

    [All] Your wishlist for LIS3?

    Posted: 15 Mar 2021 01:48 PM PDT

Please do NOT discuss the supposed leaks here. Only the thing you want to see and hope for the bext game!

    Here's what l want:

    1. Asian female protagonist with a lot of depth.

    2. Mind-reading power that has a gameplay purpose.

    3. Ability to choose live interests - either a male or female can become your LI.

    4. A HELLA BIG mystery plot line. (Fr, mystery is one of the best parts of the first Life is Strange)

    5. New small town and a semi-open world like in the first LIS.

    6. Characters, inspired by someone like Nathan, Victoria, Warren, Kate, that you can befriend or ignore (gameplay purpose)

I think that's all. What about you, guys?

[ALL] 1st time i played LIS was such a beatiful experience, with choices that made me feel bad for those characters or laugh and be happy for others. above all, i think in a general context, LISis a tragic story in a lot of ways, and i hope i'm able to show this interpretation of mine in this video.

[NO SPOILERS] Finally bought LiS 2

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 09:36 PM PDT

I absolutely loved 1. I played BtS too and that was good but I wasn't the hugest fan. NOT because the game was bad or anything but because one of the characters low key felt manipulative to me and not what I thought they'd be like but we don't have to go into that. Anyways, I really wanted to play LiS 2 but I never had the chance to buy it until now. I'm excited to play it after I'm done with exams and I'm excited for the new LiS announcement next week!

[ALL] Do you think we'll ever see Max & Chloe again?

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 11:59 PM PDT

Really unfortunate in my opinion that the story was left at a cliffhanger. Before the Storm was a perfect prequel and I must say that this series is the best story that I've ever been able to be apart of. I couldn't get into LiS2 as much, although it's quite alright - it just doesn't have the same pulling power as the first games. I am very invested in the characters and some times I like to theory craft what the apocalyptic aftermath would be with Max & Chloe. What do you think, should there be an official sequel? What's your opinion on... everything?
