[ALL] Just finished Life is Strange 2 and... damn.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:47 AM PDT

The end I got was heartbreaking. I thought I goofed something up, then went and watched all the endings on YouTube and realized there's no clean escape, their lives were permanently upended from the prologue. There are varying degrees of hope in all the endings, but there just wasn't a way for them to overcome such a huge situation.

Heartbreaking game. So well done, successfully raised the stakes big time from the first one while still staying grounded with a big heart and personality. Probably stuck with me more because Daniel reminds me so much of my own brother and we both grew up brown-ish in a predominantly white area. This one is going to linger with me for a real long while.

[BtS][S1] After 2 months and 2 playthroughs, it's safe to say this game has deeply impacted my life

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:05 AM PDT

Where to begin? I bought life is strange on sale for $4 back in March. Now I've put 32 hours into it and taken about 500 screenshots. I didn't plan to do a second playthrough so quickly after the first. I played the prequel shortly after finishing the original for the first time in an attempt to fill the void. And while BtS was amazing, the final scene left me desperate for closure and justice, so I really felt I had no choice but to plunge into the original again. But really, I also wanted a second shot at that ending.

Nothing will ever beat that first playthrough of the original, it's clear to me now. However, the second playthrough brought out so many details I'd overlooked before if only because I lacked the relevant context. I also took my time more in exploring since I wasn't so desperate to know what happens next in the story. I remember losing my mind at the 'firewalk with me' inscription on the two whales bathroom mirror - right next to Rachel's picture, as well as the broken camera from BtS in the junkyard which Max calls 'beyond repair.'

And the ending, man it's hard. I think the story offers total justification for both choices. I went into it gung-ho to save Chloe at all costs after playing BtS, and while my attitude never completely swayed from this, getting my second chance to save Kate certainly made me think twice. And of course, the whole last hour of the game (Max's fever dream) is devoted to prepping you for the decision you have to make and understand exactly what it means. Finally, Chloe's heartbreaking speech at the end about the town and her mother is terribly convincing and certainly made me think twice. But still, f*** the town. At it's core, the game is about Max and Chloe, and even more specifically it's a redemption story for Max. While I think she's still redeemed herself if she saves the town, as Chloe says so before the decision, there is also plenty of reason to believe she means it when she says that Chloe is 'her number one priority.'

I'm not sure I'll ever decide which ending I prefer. But what is for certain is that this game is a masterpiece. I'd like to extend heartfelt thanks to the writers who came up with this amazing idea, the actors who brought the characters the life, the artists and cinematographers who gave the game its beautiful aesthetic, and last but not least Jonathan Morali, for one of the best OSTs I've ever heard and an amazing selection of licensed tracks (my vinyl is on the way). And thank you to everyone on the backend not mentioned above who helped bring this amazing story to light.

This game has truly changed my life in a multifaceted way. The music, for one hand, has taken over my taste and directed it in new directions. I've learned almost every soundtrack song on guitar and have now moved on to creating a playlist of songs that 'would fit in life is strange.' It's been a complicated year so far, but on a handful of nights where I've felt truly free and made some important decisions, the LiS soundtrack was there to provide the ambiance.

Finally, the game has also been directly inspirational to my specific interests and life goals. I'm an aspiring photographer in a long term career sense, and it just felt great to play a character who I related with on such a deep level, as I often feel that no one in my life truly understands my feelings about the subject. Max has certainly helped strengthen my convictions that this is something I want to devote a decent portion of my life to. Additionally, the choice of Oregon as a setting has helped me see that there is so much more that the United States has to offer, especially for a photographer and someone who loves the outdoors, than my current home on the east coast. I had thoughts of moving out west before playing the game, but now I'm certain it's what I'm supposed to do, and Oregon is at the top of my list. My plan is to make it there within 18 months.

If you've made it this far, thank you for reading. I would love to hear how this game has impacted your life as well. I need to give these games a break so that the next time I play them they'll be just as special. And by then, hopefully I'll be in Oregon.

[S1] Does Max lose her powers after the ending?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:54 AM PDT

I've been talking with someone on Facebook and they say that Dontnod has officially stated that she loses her powers after the ending of S1. I can't find this anywhere, does anyone have any insight?

[ALL]Cause and effect?? does the whole story have something to do with it! LiS THEORY!

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 11:32 PM PDT

Sorry for the English, it is not my first language.

    It is just a theory.

Rachael burned the forest down and Chloe was involved she gave it the ignition. I think the real reason Max got her time-reversal power because of her connection with Chloe. The universe is based on cause and effect, every cause has an effect. That might just be the reason Chloe would get in all kinds of trouble in S1. Every way she couldn't die. The day they burnt the forest the Causality started working.

That ended both of their lives.

    Now, why time traveling?
We saw Max did a lot. Saved a lot of people. The Causality had not just worked in nature's favor but other innocents. Kate, she had her problems and she tried to kill herself. Max lost her power the exact moment. because the universe knew, it doesn't fall in her Chloeesqe magic power but, it is its own thing. So, she had to convince her.

Chloe might have had a troubled life, but things she did had an effect. The only person who was friends with her MAX, I mean there was Elliot and Step but they weren't the true friends. It was Max. Similar to the Butterfly effect. No matter what they both had to die. Even if we save Chloe, she'd die at some point in her life. The powers were to balance it. So, you either burn down the whole town or save Chloe. It was never a choice, it was an order. Every damn thing that ever happened, happened because of these girls burning that picture.

It might never have had happened it they just stayed school and went home.

    CAUSE AND EFFECT.

[ALL] I'm such a train wreck right now

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:31 PM PDT

I've been playing games since Commodore64 which is basically a long, long time and I played Life Is Strange 1 a couple of years ago and was absolutely mind blown by it. One of the best games I ever played with absolutely just the right music (which I really appreciated). I'm usually not even into these type of games but this was so good.

This week I started with Life Is Strange - Before The Storm because I wanted to play it for a long time and owed that to myself and the game and realized very quickly that I was so hooked to the story and game again, just like I was in part 1. Knowing Rachel only superficially from part 1, it was also really nice to learn how close Chloe and Rachel were and what an amazing friendship (and maybe more) they really had. Pretty sad to know now about another tragedy Chloe has to endure by losing Rachel in part 1 and how much she misses Max now. It hurts thinking of it. I really grew on Chloe more and more in this story and I really appreciated learning more about her backstory and her as a character in general. Also I felt deep sympathy for mom trying so hard under difficult circumstances and even David I could sympathize somewhat with. Overal, the feels......I never get emotional from games but part 1 caught me and now Before The Storm did it again. I don't think I'll survive another sequel/prequel :P

After I finished Before The Storm I made the dumb decision of playing the Farewell bonus episode and man, I'm such a train wreck right now. This game leaves a hole in my soul. Pretty dramatic but I can't describe it another way. It was nice to see Max and Chloe together again though so I cherish playing it.

This game is all about friendship, loyalty and love and it sucks the viewer into the story in just the right way. I'm really grateful to the developers creating this universe and the stories. Btw, I was wondering if any 'adults' play this? I'm in my late 30's and I society tells me I should probably be doing more productive things with my time :P but I still really enjoy this stuff :)
