[NO SPOILERS] I just finished the original Life is Strange for the first time, and WOW

    Posted: 23 May 2021 12:12 PM PDT

I'm just going to keep this simple, I just finished the original Life is Strange from 2015 and I am just surprised by how great a game this is. I had no idea what to expect when I first started and I was not let down. It's just so good. Even if you don't LITERALLY relate to the characters, the game does such a great job of putting you in their shoes and feeling the story and understanding their relationships. It's just straight up such a good game and I can't wait to try out some of the others.

[ALL] Collectibles mode as an anti-mindfulness simulator

    Posted: 23 May 2021 08:11 AM PDT

I've been playing the collectibles mode of Life is Strange (the first one), and I started to feel that the story was having less emotional impact on me, possibly because I was focused on finding and taking the next photo to complete my collection. (Of course, it might just be that it had less impact because I'd already played through the story)

In any case, I feel like when I was younger I may have been going through my life in a similar fashion - I would be very focused on certain goals, such as building up knowledge of certain bands, or reading certain books (probably in order to appear cool and/or smart), to the extent where I may have been missing out on feeling my feelings.

Alternatively, it could be that any emotional experiences I had in my younger days paled in comparison to the harrowing ordeal of playing Life is Strange for the first time. Who knows

[NO SPOILERS] I keep having this glitch where the circle option select thingy just keeps appearing and disappearing when I'm looking directly at it. This makes it practically impossible to do anything, even something as simple as opening a door.

    Posted: 23 May 2021 12:29 AM PDT

I am using just barely the minimum system requirements for the game, but it actually runs surprisingly well, allbeit a bit slow at times, it's just this glitch that's pissing me off. It makes it practically impossible to do anything on a time limit.

[ALL] What's your favorite song from the entire LiS franchise?

    Posted: 22 May 2021 11:59 AM PDT

We all know the LiS franchise has a great track record for soundtracks. I've definitely found some songs I've never heard of while playing. My personal favorite is Mountains by Message to Bears. Heartbreaking, I know. But every time I hear it, it makes me feel a whirlwind of emotions which is what I love when I listen to music!

    What about you guys?

[NO SPOILERS] Does Chloe ever say something like "this isn't my first rodeo" to Max?

    Posted: 22 May 2021 12:19 PM PDT

I swear I remember her saying something like that but on my most recent playthrough I either didn't get that line of dialog or I missed it.

    Any help?

[ EDIT: For some context, I vaguely recall some old discussions that suggested Rachel had powers because Chloe intimates it's not her first experience with them when she talks to Max. But I'm consulting transcripts now ( https://life-is-strange.fandom.com/wiki/Episode_2:_Out_of_Time_-_Script ) and it's not looking like anything is showing up. So I'm not sure if maybe DONTNOD altered dialog (we know they did alter at least a few lines elsewhere) to reduce some of the epileptic tree speculation. ]

[BtS E1] So I finally started this game

    Posted: 22 May 2021 02:48 AM PDT

I'm already liking how the dynamic and 'feel' of the game has been changed to reflect the shift to Chloe Price as the main character with her increasing DGAF attitude and her alienation from Max.

Game mechanic wise, I have to say not having the 'rewind' ability makes me a little nervous about how far I can undo choices in the game, but the snark to snark combat mechanic is an interesting concept. :D

Also, the more prominent use of the keyboard as opposed to the mouse is a little disconcerting at first, but does avoid some prickly issues with the 'click and drag' requirement of the original LiS.

So yeah, I like smartass Chloe and I can't wait to see more of her. :)

[ EDIT: I just checked, and I got LiS BtS in June 2018 and then the deluxe add-on thingy in 2019. Geez! ]

[ EDIT 2: I kept playing and I was DYING of laughter at the snark level of Chloe's inner monolog as well as her dialog! X'D ]

[No Spoilers] Chloe would be proud - up and coming punk rockers The Linda Lindas with a fiery set including a cover of Bikini Kill's 'Rebel Girl'

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3msSlr4PkDE

The full performance is definitely worth a watch, I was grinning ear to ear the whole time. I think 'Never Say Never' is particularly good and 'Racist Sexist Boy' (for which they're currently making the rounds, I only just read about them on NPR) is a blast.

In context of LiS I had never heard 'Rebel Girl' before which it turns out is a cover of a song by Bikini Kill, a female punk band from the early 90s. If it's new to you as well just give it a listen and I think you'll quickly see why it brought Max and Chloe to mind.

[S1] Samuel in the original LiS

    Posted: 21 May 2021 06:12 PM PDT

No matter how it's explained as him being kind of a very odd magpie-type who seems to have "extra" knowledge of the world around him, I just cannot shake off the creepy vibes I get when seeing his stash of stuff related to Rachel Amber specifically and young women in general.

Does anyone else feel the same way? And did the devs ever intend to flesh out that plotline more? From what I understand, episode 5 had to be wrapped up somewhat hastily due to funding constraints, but I'm hoping someone has discussed this in an official capacity.
