[ALL] my take on the endings of LiS1 Posted: 16 Aug 2021 01:14 PM PDT yeah, yeah, we're having the same discussions for seven years now but i wanted to make a post on my own about the bay vs bae endings in the first game. first off, it's important to mention that i'm a former bayer, and i'm also a really strong fan of angsty stories. the bay ending provided, on many levels, a superior approach of the story. it was longer, we had a better closure, we ever had a kiss for the pricefielders out there. both endings are as important and valuable to the story as they both teach different morals. but... that's it? we spent the entire rekindling with an old friend only to... say our last goodbyes? to me, the sacrifice chloe ending feels like you're dooming max to a choice she never actually wanted (canon backs up many times, through dialogues and journal entires, that max does not want to sacrifice chloe, or that she wouldn't care for the town to be destroyed if that would means chloe is safe is alive). that's why the bay ending feels so wildly ooc for max. you spend the game saving chloe because she got caught in some grand butterfly effect, and the MOMENT she's close to finally reach happiness and to heal with someone who actually loves her, you want to erase it all by killing her off? i'm not sitting here and shaming people for choosing either ending, as i said, they're both beautiful and heart wrenching, but to me, bay just doesn't make sense anymore. chloe is not meant to die (unless you're also acknowledging that the storm is meant to happen regardless, which contradicts the whole argument) and besides, isn't the whole point of the game about letting the course of things go? by going back in time and erasing it all, you're not learning from your mistakes; you're running away from them. you're pretending they never existed. max didn't have for those powers, she didn't ask for the storm to destroy her hometown, so why would she get that responsibility and getting blamed for wanting to save the most important person in her life? i think we're forgetting how max would be if you choose bay. maybe you, the player, don't care, maybe your only goal was to choose what you deem to be the most 'moral' ending, but max loses the ONLY person who lived that week with her, who understood her, who was there for her. and it's important if you want max to heal properly and get over her traumas. also, max isn't really a character on her own. her whole story revolves around chloe. without chloe, she's basically no one. (as someone who adores max the most, it isn't a drag. but she's never shown to have a story which doesn't involve chloe in a way. so that's why i love describing lis1 as "chloe's story, told through max's lens"... ba dum tss). anyway, in the end, choosing bay is erasing the entire fucking 10h you spent on that playthrough, learning to meet your best friend all over again and seeing her gradually evolving and becoming a better person. and BAM. in bay, none of this happens and she dies. end of the story? that's depressing. hot take, but the game was made in mind that pricefield is a thing. they're canonically soulmates and on top of that, they fell in love, and maybe it's just my fanfic writer self that reads a little too much into things, but the bae ending is beautiful because, damn, their love destroyed the world, and it's tragic, and powerful, and it shows how much they care and would never leave the other. Posted: 16 Aug 2021 08:04 AM PDT There is a very interesting moment that happens in the first Life is Strange episode 2 where you have to talk Kate out of suicide while having inexplicably lost your powers. While I'm sure the real reason you lose your powers are that the writers wanted to raise the stakes to effect the plot tension. A lore friendly reason I have been wracking in my head could be that you are now in one of many Max's lives that were "left behind". Towards the end of Episode 5 we have an encounter with Max's "alternative lives". The lives that had to be lived an carried out without the power of time travel, where different Max's had to "live with the consequences" of Max's actions. This is meant to stand as an indictment of Max using her powers and that every time she does so, she is having an untold effect on alternate timelines. I believe that we can explain the loss of powers at the end of Episode 2 as sort of the natural conclusion of that revelation. At some point or another she was bound to get "left behind" and this was the moment where it happens to "our Max". Forced to live with the consequences of her actions that another alternative universe Max will not be. [link] [comments]

[S1] Just finished the story for the first time, and I'm blown away Posted: 15 Aug 2021 02:38 PM PDT I'm at a loss for words, I had the game for a while, but never really got around to playing it. However this week I decided to try it out, and now I regret not playing it sooner. One good thing is that I never did any research into the story, nor have I watched any playthroughs when the game first came out, so I had no idea what to expect and I started fresh, so to speak. I obviously had no idea about the rewind aspect, so when I first used to save Chloe in the bathrooms I realized the extent of those powers Max has. I also didn't know how fleshed out the game is and at the end of every episode, when looking at the choices made, at least 4-5 choices were one I hadn't even encountered, although that speaks more of me and how I play. The event that really stood out to me is me not being able to save Kate. I did everything right on the rooftop, but at the last dialogue option I picked to explain how suicide is a sin, and not the Bible quote, since I didn't even notice it in her room. Kate was pretty much my favorite side character at that point so obviously seeing her die was pretty distressing, so much so that I held the rewind button the entire time, subconsciously hoping that Max can prevent her from dying, but to no avail. Another shocking twist I could never have foreseen in a thousand years was Jefferson being the primary antagonist and not Nathan. As for the ending, I decided to sacrifice Arcadia Bay, because at the time I thought that the storm was unavoidable, that it would happen no matter if Max had her powers or not, and since the town is already doomed, why not at least save my BFF Chloe. I never really bought into how Max blamed herself for the storm, or how Chloe came up with the idea that Max saving her in the bathroom was the thing that lead to the storm. All in all, it was one of the best story-driven gameplay experiences I've ever had, truly a masterpiece. What can I expect from LiS2? And also, thanks for reading this blogpost :P [link] [comments]

[ALL] Very specific S1 writing question Posted: 16 Aug 2021 07:33 AM PDT By now it's probably not controversial to say that even those of us who adore the game feel like the writing in season 1 could be really cringe. This isn't a post to complain about that. Recently though I've been thinking about how the original team is French, and what role that might have played. I haven't been able to find much online talking about what language the game was originally written in, but as someone who speaks more than one language, the more I look at some of the dialogue the more it feels like what can happen when someone overestimates their abilities in their non-native language (vs. a poor localization, which has different telltale signs). Has anyone seen anything about whether the game was originally written in English, or any commentary on linguistic issues around the game at all? Do people who played the game in a language other than English feel like the writing was less cringe? I'm thinking about playing through in a different language myself, although sadly not French, which I don't speak. [link] [comments]
[No Spoilers] Recommendations for YouTube channel(s) Posted: 16 Aug 2021 07:43 AM PDT True Colors is too expensive for me right now and I'll probably only be able to get it for sale one or two years later. I don't intend to wait until then so I'm planning to watch the full story on Youtube. Do any of you have recommendations for channel(s) that will be posting gameplay? I'm looking for gameplay that

[ALL] I want to play this game but i have questions. Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:50 PM PDT Hello and thanks for taking the time. I hope i am not breaking any rules. I have a few questions regarding the gameplay, and the multiple endings for this game. Oh! and to be clear i am talking about the first Life is strange. So just to give some context I played this game several years ago after getting it on sale. I remember that i was really into it and i did enjoy it but i soon ran into some things that i really hate about certain types of games. I really dont like the style of gameplay for point and click adventure games. Try as i might i just hate it! Now i know that life is strange is not a point and click adventure game but it has similar gameplay systems. walk around and click on stuff to find stuff and sometimes those things are needed for the plot. In fact one of the two reasons i quit playing this game was because i got stuck. It was early in the game and i needed to enter the Dorm rooms? but there was some dude on a latter blocking the way and i guess i had to figure out how to get by. Back then i just refused to look up a guide, but now i am over that. While i hate systems like this, i am more then willing to put up with it for a good story and i have always wanted to beat this game. Now this alone was not the problem. You see this game has been spoiled for me 1000 ways to Sunday! and i know how the game ends up giving you some choices towards the end of the game. This is going to be hard for me to explain. I love games with multiple endings. mass effect and Dragon age are some of my favorites. But i hate games with bad> good> perfect endings. Because by having endings like these you kinda end up devaluing the lesser endings. What is worst is that these games can lock you out of the "perfect ending" for simply playing the game like you want or because you missed doing some random thing. Now From all that i heard back then it seems like this game does have a perfect ending where the two girls end up together ( platonically or romantically) you can save your friend without having to let the city be blown away. But what scared me and made me quit was the idea that i can play the whole game and then get a crap ending for not doing things a certain way. But recently there was this cat on a message board that replied to a comment i made on the Life is strange remaster. And they told me that i had things wrong and that the game does not play the way i think. That there is no way to screw up the ending of the game. And that there is no real bad ending. You get to the end and the game will give you a choice. But google says there are like multiple endings. UGH! I try to find info on this but its all scattered. So my question is this: How does this game do Endings? If i want to Aim for the quote on quote perfect ending how easy is it for me to screw it up? I am not going to play this game with a guide beside me, but i dont want to replay this game multiple times. Can someone just set the record straight for me? Please and thank you! EDIT;YOO! you all F-ing ROCK! Thanks again for the responses, Redownloading the game now cant wait to play it tomorrow when i get home. [link] [comments]
[no spoilers] True Colors returning characters? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 02:03 PM PDT Do we have any confirmation of the returning characters so far outside of steph? There will no doubt be more but I'm wondering if they showed or confirmed any others. [link] [comments]
[ALL] my alt S1E4-5 sorry line Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:05 PM PDT The dark room and the end of the world party part of the game is pretty weird i any opinion. If you tell Victoria to stay close to her friends and watch out for Nathan, she gets kidnapped because she goes to Jefferson and doesnt stay with her friends like you told to her. Nathan just gets killed off screen and doesn't run away or tell anyone which could've helped Max more than a call or a voicemail. Your interaction with Nathan doesn't matter since he does either way in the same way regardless if you get him expelled or let Warren beat him half to death. In my opinion, Victoria should've been kidnapped if she doesn't believe you. Maybe she thought about your warning again and went to Jefferson. She would stay alive if you don't warn her or believes your warning. Nathan may still die but in different ways depends on your choices and interaction with him. Your three main interaction and decision with him is: 1.report him for his gun or not 2.blame him for Kate or not 3.let Warren beat him or not. Maybe each of these interactions give you a score similar to the intimacy level in BTS and decides Nathan's fate It'll probably determined his tone with you or something as well. For example Hatred ( go against him in all 3 )H Dislike (go against him in 2)D Neutral( go against him in 1)N Slightly ok( refuse to go against him at all)S If he was beaten up, he always die . If it's H, he die off screen with no voicemails, If it's D ,he die off screen with voicemail If it's N, Jefferson kidnaps him and kill him in front of you to show his sadism and to torture you Otherwise, if he doesn't get beaten hard, If it's D, he reports Jefferson to his dad and maybe they both die or something or both confronts Jefferson. If it's N, he run away and survive If Max never did anything against him, he confronts Jefferson in the dark room and dies. [link] [comments] |
