[All] Road trip game with Max and Chloe

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:11 AM PDT

I think that the biggest problem with Life is Strange 2 was how the road trip format was implemented. Although a lot of people don't like how the settings were constantly changing and that the side characters were never in more than two episodes, I don't think that these are problems in themselves. The real problem is the core cast of Sean and Daniel.

I know a lot of people really like these two as the main characters, so bear in mind that this is my subjective opinion and not gospel about how you should feel about them. The thing about formats like road trips is that if you're going to have constantly shifting settings and side characters that don't stick around for too long, then your core cast needs to be really great, because they're going to be the only constants throughout the entirety of the story and the narrative is going to depend on how they interact with the passing side characters and how they develop from that. In my opinion, the Diaz brothers weren't a good enough core cast- Sean was just dull and Daniel became increasingly annoying for the parts of the game that I played. The other issue is how we weren't familiar with them. I don't think the first 15 minutes of episode 1 was enough time to get to know these characters before they went on the road trip, and because of this it's a lot harder to relate to and emphasize with them when they struggle.

Another quick note that I wanted to mention is that the second game really failed at capturing the nostalgic and comfortable feeling of the first game, which is one of the biggest factors in why Life is Strange itself was a huge success. I think Dontnod changing this feeling was a huge mistake, even if it was a bold step.

Almost all of these problems are solved if it's a game with Max and Chloe going on a road trip after the Bae ending.

We've already had an entire game to get to know Max and Chloe, which gives them a lot of familiarity with the audience, which helps to ground us when the story is going to be in a setting as fluid as a road trip. They're also great characters that we can easily emphasize and relate to, and there would be a lot of heartfelt and meaningful interactions with side characters, even if their stay is short-lived. Their relationship with each other, whether it's as friends or partners, is also something that can be further developed. The road trip itself could be an entire healing process from the traumatic experience of the ending of the first game, which I think is a lot more meaningful than the motivation of randomly going to Mexico.

And oh man, the tone. There is so much potential for the "feel" of LiS in a game like this. The first game focused on experiences of being a teen in a school setting, and this could work really well as a natural "next step" from that, going on to exploring the world as young adults and becoming more exposed to the "real world",which invokes a lot of nostalgia as well.

The journey itself could be along the west coast to Los Angeles, or maybe a cross-country trip going all the way to New York. The trip itself is still pretty vague in my mind, but I really think that this format has a ton of possibilies if it were done with M and C. Let me know if you agree/disagree with anything I said and if you have any ideas for this sort of game!

[NO SPOILERS] Opinions on a song I heard that could probably fit into a game

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:40 AM PDT

I recently listened to Sleep Thru Ur Alarms by Lontalius and as soon as the intro kicked off I immediately thought that it could fit into a Life is Strange game so well.

The instrumental could be played during a "moment of calm" if it was slowed down a bit and the entire song could be played in the cutscene before an episode ends.

The tone and guitar just gave me strong Life is Strange vibes and I wanted to share it with fellow time travellers to see what they thought since music (which helped me connect to the world of LiS) is a big part of the games. :)

[NO SPOILERS] Do you plan on buying Life is Strange 3 right when it comes out?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 09:11 PM PDT

Apparently it will cost $60 at release. Will you buy it in the beginning or wait until it gets cheaper?

I live in the U.S. and our economy is not doing so hot right now. While we have gotten stimulus checks, most of us are saving it for rent and other more important expenses.
